Artist Statement
The strength of the oppressor is the silence of the oppressed; the African normal is the belief that daily life hardships will automatically change just by being religious alone, so we wear broken smiles even when we suffer injustice from the political class who squander our collective wealth, jeopardize our future, maim and anahilate our jobless youths for taking up the courage to protest. Yet we wear broken smiles, a guised hope, a symbol of fear and naivity, the markings of the influence of weaponized poverty.
