Description

This is to highlights the struggles of growing up in poverty, facing neglect, and overcoming adversity. The empty biscuit carton, mockingbird, and ruby-red hue convey the harsh realities and emotional scars, but also the resilience and hope that burns within. A poignant reminder that children are our future, and it's our responsibility to nurture and empower them to thrive

Artist Statement
ARTIST STATEMENTI am Kolawole Adedeji Israel, a contemporary visual artist born on May 19, 2000, in Modakeke, Osun State, Nigeria. Life’s imbalances—witnessed through child labor, neglect, and societal challenges—fuel my art, a continuous pursuit to interpret my identity and the world around me. Growing up, I saw children, including myself, hawking goods to survive, yet finding joy in shared moments. This duality inspires me to depict human faces as diamonds, a symbol of intrinsic brilliance and potential, often stifled by selfish desires and instability. I believe we are all born with a magnificent future, and the harder we strive, the brighter our glory shines.I am currently in my final year pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, Nigeria, where my studies have deepened my understanding of artistic techniques and cultural narratives. Incorporating gems into my art holds deep significance, reflecting resilience, inner strength, and themes like wealth, purity, love, and protection. Yet, I emphasize that children are our most precious resource, and my work calls for genuine love to break cycles of harm. Using bold colors and intricate patterns—drawn from my cultural heritage and personal experiences—I aim to evoke empathy, spark conversations, and provide catharsis. My exhibitions, like "Ephemeral Elegance" and "The Second Soulstone," emerge from personal reflections and cultural observations, exploring the human condition and art’s transformative power.Exhibiting in Nigeria and internationally, such as at Luna Grande Gallery in Turkey, has broadened my perspective, encouraging new techniques and themes. I hope my art inspires self-reflection, fosters empathy, and challenges norms, leaving a lasting impact. Moving forward, I aspire to delve deeper into identity, community, and social justice, using my diamond motif to symbolize potential, and to create immersive installations with collaborators to inspire collective action. My goal is a legacy of art that uplifts, connects, and drives change long after I’m gone.

Description

There was a time when children had to step into their father and mother’s shoes while still very young. They carried the weight of their parents at a young age, seeking food and shelter as they walked through the night and prayed “The Lord is my Shepherd.” They faced different difficulties and the beat from life but they needed to endure. The girl was wearing her mother’s big cloth ? and the shoes she held were not hers. The ram walked at night — for a ram it is not easy — seeking food in the blue night where cold falls and on the lonely road for most people. Yet they held hope for their brighter future, seeking that tomorrow would be a better day. They always looked ahead to their future — that is the uniqueness. No one can tell their story like they did, with the joy at dawn.Psalm 23:1“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want reading this in my mind every single night
